I know you’re probably looking at the title like, “Monistat Chaffing Gel? As a mattifier? On my face?” Well I’m here to tell you YES! YES! and YES! I actually got this tip from from watching videos on YouTube. Some ladies use it as a primer, but I wanted to try it as a mattifier. Now I usually use MAC Matte to keep my oily skin under control, but since I was just about out of the mattifier, and a little short on cash, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try something new. Let me tell you, I love this stuff!
MCG is light-weight, does an excellent job of keeping me oil free, smooths out my skin before make-up application, and lasts for quite a while. I’ve even noticed that I don’t have to reapply it as often as I did with MAC’s version. If you’re still not sold, I’ve done a quick comparison between the two products:
Pros: High quality, thick consistency, smooth and velvety finish.
Cons: Less than 1 ounce, $20, have to travel to the mall and/or order online, can only purchase it from MAC (obviously!)
Monistat Chaffing Gel
Pros: 1.5 ounces, $6-9, great quality, can purchase from Walmart, Target, and any drug store; same smooth finish.
Cons: Thinner consistency, size of tube may not be practical to carry around (That’s fixable: Simply fill an empty eye shadow container with MCG and you’ll have a back-up stash you can carry on the go!)
I’ve been using MCG for the past few months with absolutely no issues. If you’re still on the fence, I would say that the convenience of being able to purchase this at more stores, the product lasting more than twice as long as MAC Matte, and it costing less than half of MAC’s version is definitely worth giving it a try. (There’s also a rumor that MCG has the same ingredients as Smashbox Photo Finish Primer)
When you run out of your expensive primers or mattifiers, don’t be afraid to give this a shot. You won’t be disappointed and you’ll save money!
